Limbic system
The limbic system is crucial to bodily functions, mainly because it controls a majority of the survival aspects of humans, regulates endocrine and autonomic responses, and also sets the bar for arousal and certain kinds of memory. In the limbic system there are two divisions: cortical and subcortical. The cortical division is associated with the cerebral cortex and includes the hippocamus. The subcortical division, on the other hand, includes structures such as the hypothalamus, amygdala, and the thalamus.
